ChessMathLab had the opportunity to partner with the Boston Centers for Youth & Families (BCYF) to bring the game of chess to their 2025 summer programs in the Quincy Community Center.
From Aug 4 to Aug 8, our instructor Alexander Meng worked with enthusiastic beginners, introducing them to the fundamentals of opening principles, mating patterns, and basic strategies. Each 1.5-hour session combined instruction, guided practice, and friendly games, helping students build both skills and confidence. By the end of the week, our students showed remarkable improvement – from understanding how to protect their pieces to spotting simple tactics and planning ahead. The sessions were filled with curiosity, energy, and lots of “aha” moments as students began to think like chess players. We’re grateful to BCYF for the opportunity to share the joy of chess and hope these young players will continue practicing, enjoying the game, and growing their skills for years to come.
