Teaching the Summer Chess Program at the Sportsmen’s Tennis and Enrichment Center (Sportsmen’s) for two weeks (08/11 – 08/22) has once again been an incredibly rewarding experience for our Chess+Math Lab coaches. This marks the third year we’ve had the privilege of offering this free community camp, and it was exciting to see both new faces and some returning campers!

Throughout the two weeks, our coaches led lessons on opening strategies, tactics, and endgames, while keeping the sessions fun and engaging for beginners. The kids also enjoyed friendly practice games that gave them the chance to apply what they learned and grow their confidence on the board.

This year, four of our Chess+Math Lab team members (Eric Feng, Ethan Qiao, Alexander Meng and Justin Li), each leading the camp on different days. Their passion and teamwork made the program possible, and we’re so proud of the energy and creativity they brought into every session.

We are grateful to Sportsmen’s for hosting us again, and to the families who continue to support this growing tradition. Watching young players sharpen their chess skills while building focus, patience, and problem-solving abilities remains the highlight of our camp!
