We are excited to announce the successful conclusion of our fourth annual free summer chess camp at the Sportsmen’s Tennis and Enrichment Center in Dorchester! Running for two weeks from August 3rd to August 14th, this year’s program brought a fresh wave of excitement as we welcomed a wonderful group of 12 new beginner campers ready to learn the game.

What made this summer truly special was the incredible growth of our own ChessMathLab team. Our organization has recently expanded to nine team members, and seven of our dedicated coaches volunteered their time to make this camp a reality: Alexander Meng, Eric Feng, Ethan Qiao, Steven Feng, Frank Cao, and our fantastic new instructors who joined us this year, Bohan Wang and Jianda Liu.

Thanks to our expanded roster, we were able to staff two instructors on most days. This excellent teacher-to-student ratio allowed us to provide highly personalized guidance to the kids. Because the majority of our campers were beginners, our dual-instructor approach made it much easier to walk them through basic opening principles, essential tactical themes, and foundational board vision without anyone getting left behind.

Of course, the highlight for the kids was applying their new skills in friendly practice games! It was rewarding for our coaches to watch these young beginners learn foundamentals, practice patience, and develop problem-solving abilities on the board.

Teaching at Sportsmen’s remains a core highlight of our year. We are deeply grateful to the center for hosting us for a fourth consecutive year, and to the families who support this growing community tradition. We are so proud of the energy and teamwork our coaches brought to every session, and we can’t wait to see where these young players take their chess journeys next!
